Here comes another head banging rock galore!
To promote the development of local music and bands, and with the aim of giving Macao rock fans a completely new experience, the Macao Cultural Centre presents the third edition of the annual rock festival “HUSH!! Full Band 2007” on the coming September 30th at the Art Plaza stage. In a renewed cooperation with Macao Music Power, this year CCM is confident that the rock festival will certainly deliver again a ‘head banging’ music experience, in a great occasion that rock enthusiasts cannot afford to miss! It’s going to be another non-stop 9-hour marathon that will showcase not only local bands but also some of the best bands in the region, with 11 groups coming from China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Philippines, Korea and Taiwan.
The Purple Nine will kick off the “rockathon” at 1pm. This Hong Kong band is led by Yip-Sai wing, the former drummer of Beyond, that during the 80’s was the most prominent rock group in the region. The Hong Kongers The Darlings, the Primary Shapes and Juicy Ning will also set foot on the Art Plaza stage. Dou Wei e Zhang Chu, both Chinese singers accompanied by their bands, will also perform in the festival, and so will the eclectic mainlanders Dreamlike. The Taiwanese Cherry Boom will bring their “girl power” to “Hush”, proving that girls also rock. Other big names at the rock marathon will fly over from other parts of Asia, such as the Malaysian heavy rock band One Buck Short (that recently performed in Singapore with international stars like Black Eyed Peas), the Filipino band Kjwan, and the Korean Pearl’s Day.
For this edition of “Hush!Full Band” our bands were on the core of programming with three invitations, and they are all madeof Macao veteran musicians: Red East, S.M. and Cactus. Whenever this event happens, the Cultural Centre tries to promote local talent through an open call to all bands that are willing to perform in the CCM open air space. This year’s chosen theme was “Originals”, in an effort of promoting the uniqueness of Macao’s rock scene and giving an incentive for original compositions. Out of the several groups that met the challenge, five bands were selected: Once Teen Ones, Scamper, The Nereus, WhyOceans and the Turtle Giants. The latter band is the new face of Surge, a group that in 1996 was led by the Ritchie brothers and that at that time was playing in several places in Macao like the Jazz Club and the former Macao Lyceum and Commercial School.
The hosts invited to steer this rock festival are Dj FAMA, a duo of MC’s from Hong Kong that will surely capture the public’s attention with their humour and friendliness. Because the Macao rockers may need to regain their strength throughout the 9-hour marathon, CCM created a special bar and chill out area. At 10pm, the acclaimed Chinese singer Zhang Chu will close the event with his experimental folk rock.
